Natalie Day is a Cornwall-based artist who makes abstract paintings of the land, with the land. She gathers and hand-processes earth pigments - ochres, clays, chalk and mining remnants - from specific sites around Cornwall and beyond, transforming raw material into layered surfaces that carry the trace of place. Shaped by landscapes where ancient ritual sites and abandoned industry meet coastal erosion and shifting tides, her work explores geology, memory and time through staining, erosion, layering and gestural mark-making. Her work focuses mainly on the areas of Bodmin Moor and the Bude coastline. The paintings are not representations of place alone, but physical extensions of it: surfaces made from the geology, memory and residue of specific sites.
